Today’s model of development does not appear to be sustainable. The chief reason is that it fails to pursue economic, social, environmental, territorial and generational efficiency and equity in a harmonious way. This has produced a global system of knowledge supporting development strategies predominantly aimed at economic growth, and a reference system for the behaviour and actions of individuals, policy makers and implementers of social-economic processes which is not always directed to a global culture of sustainability. The latter, in the opinion of the Simone Cesaretti Foundation, consists in respect for fundamental principles, a harmonious balance between the dimensions of development, intra-generational equity, and recognition of the rights of future generations. In other words, the pursuit of development sustainability is limited by an inharmonious quest for an equitable, efficient and effective development model, while a fundamental critical factor lies in the scant respect for fundamental principles, in the imbalance between the dimensions of development, in the inability to safeguard inter-generational equity and the rights of future generations. Therefore, a body of activities must be created with the aim of building a store of knowledge about the major topics connected with development and the fundamental elements of the global culture of sustainability. In order to advance knowledge about the topics connected with development and promote a global culture of sustainability, the Simone Cesaretti Foundation fields a number of activities devoted to defining a new integrated cycle of knowledge, based on the optimal combination of a transferable innovations system, a training system, and a communications system directed to finding a model of sustainable development. In particular, the PORTAL OF THE SUSTAINABILITY promoted by the Simone Cesaretti Foundationis the tool conceived to ensure, through an integrated communications system, the offer of a store of knowledge about the major topics connected with development and the promotion of a global culture of sustainability.
